ChinaJoy 2026, held from July 31 to August 3 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, once again confirmed its status as a global digital entertainment benchmark. Beyond the usual game showcases and cosplay crowds, the B2B business exhibition area revealed a clearer industry shift: digital marketing is moving from pure user acquisition toward full lifecycle operations.
With traffic costs rising and growth slowing, the old model of simply buying more users is losing effectiveness. Companies across the floor emphasized a different priority identifying high-retention potential users early and building systems that keep them engaged, active, and valuable over time.

ChinaJoy 2026: What to expect this year
Several exhibitors illustrated this change in practice. Unity stressed the importance of focusing on lifetime value rather than repeatedly chasing new installs. Global growth platform Almedia launched its LINK in-game monetization solution for the Chinese market, using incentive systems that reward players for progressing while giving developers a more sustainable revenue path. Other players showcased Agentic AI tools capable of handling budget allocation, audience combinations, creative testing, and channel coordination with minimal human intervention.
The common thread was clear. Growth is no longer treated as the simple sum of isolated campaigns. It is becoming a composite capability that combines product strength, AI-driven decision-making, open ecosystem connections, and genuine localization. Localization itself has expanded beyond language and visuals to include user decision psychology, payment habits, and regulatory realities.

For marketers, the takeaway from ChinaJoy 2026 is practical. In a mature market, the competitive edge is shifting from how efficiently you acquire users to how effectively you operate them across their entire lifecycle from first contact through activation, retention, and long-term monetization. Brands and platforms that build systems around this logic will be better positioned for the next stage of digital growth.
