By Olivier Verot, Founder of Gentleman Marketing Agency (GMA)
February 15, 2026 ; Chinese New Year is just five days away, starting on February 17, and the Year of the Horse is already making waves.
Here in Chine all cities are calm… no red lanterns silent… , everyone talking about what to wear for family dinners and celebrations.
For fashion brands, this is prime time ; one of the biggest spending periods of the year in China.
. Every CNY brings new trends, and 2026 is no different. The Horse symbolizes energy, freedom, and confidence, so fashion is leaning into movement and subtle power…. Luxury houses are going all in with special collections, and consumers ; especially young ones ; …cwant pieces that feel authentic, not just slapped with a zodiac logo.
In this piece, I’ll break down the five biggest “fashion trends” I’m seeing for CNY 2026, then the five marketing moves smart brands are making to win right now. My opinion.. 😉
The Five Big Fashion Trends for Chinese New Year 2026

Brands like Burberry, Dior, Gucci, Hermès, and Chanel have dropped capsules that nail the Year of the Horse . It’s not overthe-top like some past years ; it’s more special you know, blending tradition with everyday wear.
- Equestrian Style Takes Center Stage Horse means “movement”, Spead … , so equestrian looks are everywhere. Think tailored riding pants, structured jackets, boots, and pony hair details. Hermès and Chloé lead with classic riding-inspired pieces, while … Burberry adds subtle checks and leather touches. Even sportswear like Nike’s Ja 3 “Year of the Horse” uses faux pony hair. It’s elegant but strong ; perfect for young professionals who want to look put-together without trying too hard.
- Red Remains King No surprise “here “; red is the” ultimate” lucky color RED for prosperity and good fortune. But this year it’s bolder dresses, modern qipao , and family matching outfits. Brands are mixing it with clean cuts so it feels fresh, not costume-like. You’ll see red coats, bags, and scarves flying off shelves ; it’s a safe bet that always sells during CNY.
- Fiery Warm Tones With the Fire element in play, oranges, pinks, purples, and warm tangerine shades are huge. These colors bring energy and adventure. Dior and Gucci use them in knits and accessories, while smaller brands add them to everyday pieces. It’s a step away from pure red ; more playful for Gen Z who want something vibrant but wearable year-round. hehe
- Gold and Metallic Touches (China standard) Gold screams wealth and luck. This year it’s subtle ; embroidery on sleeves, metallic threads in scarves, or gold hardware on bags. Chanel and Louis Vuitton weave it into classics, making pieces feel “premium” with out being flashy. Pair it with red or warm tones, and you’ve got a great festive look, i like it
- Subtle Horse Motifs and Charms Gone are the big cartoon horses. Now it’s discreet prints, charms, or graphics on bags, jewelry, and sweaters. ….like Loro Piana and Tory Burch do soft horse motifs, while brands like Moynat team up for fun limited charms. Yes… you get it… It’s about quiet nods to the zodiac that don’t scream “CNY only” ; people can wear them long after the holidays, for real
These trends works because they feel real. Chinese consumers, “especially ” in big cities, Chinese female consumers, want clothes that fit their lifestyle ; & premium and a bit fun 😉 . (read more fashion trends )

The Five Marketing Trends Fashion Brands Need to Follow in 2026
CNY isn’t just about dropping a collection ; it’s about how you sell it. With the market recovering, brands are investing big, but the “game has changed” 🙂
. It’s less about loud and more about connecting “authentically”.
- Huge Lunar New Year Capsule Drops Brands are going bigger than ever with dedicated collections. Burberry has dozens of pieces, from bags to ready-to-wear. Luxury players like Fendi and Bottega Veneta release limited capsules to build hype. It’s a proven way to grab festive spending ; people buy these as gifts or for themselves to start the year right.
- Deeper Cultural Connection Superficial zodiac slaps don’t cut it anymore. Successful campaigns dig into what the Horse really means ; freedom, … energy, heritage. Brands draw on equestrian roots (think Hermès history) for authenticity. Consumers spot fakes fast, so cultural respect wins loyalty.
- Xiaohongshu is the “Battlefield” If you’re not dominating Xiaohongshu, you’re missing out. Young shoppers search here for CNY outfit ideas ; real user posts, styling tips, honest reviews. Brands seed content with influencers, run native ads, and link straight to shops. It’s where trends start and sales happen ; way ahead of Douyin for fashion discovery this year.
- Smarter Influencer Partnerships Mega KOLs still work, but KOCs ; everyday influencers ; build more trust. Pair with celebrities or creators who fit the brand story, focusing on emotional storytelling. Campaigns highlight family, new beginnings, or personal confidence ; not just product pushes. It feels human, and that converts.
- Subtle, Modern Campaigns for Gen Z Bold red explosions are out ; subtler, lifestyle-focused ads are in. Brands emphasize experience ; how the clothes make you feel free or confident. Tie into sustainability or personal growth to appeal to younger buyers. Social search is huge ; optimize posts so they show up when people look for “Year of the Horse outfits.”
SO….
To conclude Chinese New Year 2026 is shaping up to be a big one for fashion. The trends are elegant and wearable, and smart brands are marketing with authenticity and digital savvy.
